Claude Gilli (1938 - 2015)
Claude Gilli was a French painter and sculptor (1938 - 2015).
Claude Gilli was a prominent artist of the Nice School who significantly contributed to the development of French pop art.
Born in Nice to a very old Niçoise family, Claude Gilli entered the School of Decorative Arts in Nice at the age of 16.
He participated, alongside Yves Klein, Albert Chubac, Martial Raysse, Ben, and others, in the creation of the "École de Nice" (School of Nice). In 2004, the Gilli & Co. exhibition at the Bordeaux Museum of Fine Arts showcased recent works as well as a large selection of pieces from the 1960s, featuring them alongside the works of Arman, Ben, Chubac, Wesselman, and others. In 2007, his work was exhibited at the James Mayor Gallery, in 2011 at the Fernand-Léger National Museum in Biot, and in 2017 at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice.
