GEORGES CUYVERS

(born 1951)

Georges Cuyvers (born 1951) is a Belgian jewellery designer, goldsmith and silversmith, and an important figure in contemporary Belgian jewellery. Born in Belgium, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, graduating in 1976 as a jewellery designer, goldsmith and silversmith. He subsequently worked in the workshops of Piet Hye and Zahir Art Jewellers, where he developed his expertise in unique jewellery and craftsmanship. Getty

Since 1979, Cuyvers has worked independently, creating jewellery and silverware for both Belgian and international houses, alongside his own artistic practice. From 1986, he also taught design, goldsmithing and silversmithing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, contributing to the education of a new generation of Belgian jewellers. lievehemel.nl

Cuyvers' work is characterized by an elegant simplicity and a profound sensitivity to nature. He works with precious metals—particularly gold and silver—using techniques such as hammering, oxidation, satin finishing and polishing to create subtle contrasts of texture and light. His jewellery combines refined craftsmanship with an unmistakably contemporary vocabulary, while his larger silver works move towards the territory of sculpture. Centre Albert Marinus

His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Basel, Paris, Geneva, London, the United States, Korea and Japan, and is represented in museum and private collections. His work has also been presented at major art and design fairs including BRAFA and TEFAF. lievehemel.nl

Cuyvers remains an important representative of the Belgian tradition of contemporary jewellery and silversmithing, where technical mastery, experimentation with materials and a strong connection between jewellery and sculpture come together.
