Bent Knudsen was a Danish silversmith and jewellery designer, recognised for his refined, minimalist approach to Scandinavian modernist jewellery. Trained at C.M. Cohr’s silverware workshops in Fredericia, he joined the Hans Hansen silversmithy in Kolding in 1946, where he developed his expertise in metalwork and contemporary design.

In 1956, Knudsen established his own workshop in Kolding with his wife, Anni Knudsen, with whom he developed a distinctive body of jewellery characterised by clean lines, geometric forms and a careful balance of simplicity and sculptural expression. Working primarily in silver, the couple created rings, bracelets, necklaces and brooches, sometimes incorporating colourful cabochon gemstones such as amethyst, malachite and hematite. Their designs reflect the essential principles of Danish modernism, combining understated elegance with exceptional craftsmanship.

Alongside their jewellery, Anni and Bent Knudsen created paper decorations and mobiles, developing a successful international business that brought their inventive approach to design to a wider audience. Their work contributed to the evolution of Danish decorative arts, demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship could be reinterpreted through a modern, functional aesthetic.

Today, Bent Knudsen’s jewellery is appreciated by collectors for its timeless forms, material sensitivity and distinctive place within the history of Scandinavian design.

Bent Knudsen’s wife was Anni Knudsen, a Danish designer who collaborated with him in their jewellery and design business.

Together, they established their workshop in Kolding, Denmark, in 1956. Anni and Bent Knudsen created modernist silver jewellery characterised by clean lines, geometric forms and understated Scandinavian elegance. They also became known for their paper decorations and mobiles, which combined playful design with the principles of Danish modernism.
