ASTRID FOG

Denmark, 1922–2005

Astrid Fog was a Danish fashion and jewellery designer whose sculptural creations helped shape the modernist aesthetic of Scandinavian jewellery in the second half of the 20th century. Originally trained in fashion design and editing, she began creating jewellery to complement her clothing designs, bringing a refined understanding of proportion, material and personal style to her work.

In 1969, Astrid Fog released her first jewelry collection for Georg Jensen, and is noted for her modernist sensibilities and combinations of simple geometric shapes, such as circles, squares, and rectangles. Her jewelry is distinctive in its large bold shapes, often utilizing lightweight, hollow silver forms. Although unconventional, her jewelry stands as a testament of the fashions of her time period. Fog is also associated with Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactury and designs clothing as well as lamps.

Alongside her jewellery, Fog designed clothing and lighting, and was also associated with Royal Copenhagen. Across these disciplines, her work consistently reflected a commitment to simplicity, meticulous craftsmanship and a sophisticated modernist sensibility. Today, her jewellery remains highly sought after by collectors and stands as a distinctive contribution to the legacy of Danish design.
