ANNA HEINDL
Austria, born 1950
Anna Heindl is an Austrian jewellery artist renowned for her expressive, sculptural creations that challenge the boundaries between jewellery, art and the human body. Born in Perg, Upper Austria, she studied metal design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna under Franz Hagenauer, graduating in 1976. She further developed her artistic practice through encounters with renowned jewellery artists Elisabeth Defner, Helfried Kodré and Hermann Jünger.
Since the 1970s, Heindl has established a distinctive artistic language, transforming precious metals, pearls, gemstones and unconventional materials into imaginative, often monumental wearable sculptures. Inspired by nature, celestial landscapes, architecture and the relationship between ornament and the body, her creations combine bold forms with poetic narratives and a playful sense of experimentation.
Her jewellery has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim. Her work is represented in prestigious public collections, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the MAK in Vienna. In 2020, the Schlossmuseum Linz dedicated a major retrospective to her work, entitled Longtime Love Affairs.
Considered an important figure in contemporary European art jewellery, Anna Heindl continues to explore jewellery as an independent artistic medium, creating intimate sculptures that invite the wearer to become an active participant in the artwork.
