ALBERTO ZORZI
Italy, born 1958
The Italian goldsmith Alberto Zorzi is one of the Padua School’s goldsmiths, whose individual members are celebrated for their innovative use of gold and for sculptural forms of subtle minimalism. He has been both student and teacher at the influential Instituto Statale d’Arte Pietro Selvatico in Padua, and has subsequently taught in Milan and Florence. Geometry has a recurring fascination for him and has inspired much of his work.
Trained at the Pietro Selvatico Art Institute in Padua, he developed a distinctive style influenced by Constructivism, the Bauhaus and modernist geometry. His creations combine geometric structures, refined craftsmanship and experimental materials, including gold, silver, copper, steel and enamel. Conceived as miniature sculptures, his jewels explore space, movement, light and the relationship between form and the human body. Alongside his artistic practice, Zorzi has pursued an academic career, teaching at several prestigious Italian institutions. His work is represented in major international collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich
